Peter Muir

British pianist Peter Muir plays ragtime, blues and early jazz in an original and compelling style. Recent appearances include the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival (Sedalia, MO), the Tom Turpin Festival (Savannah, GA), and the Indianapolis Ragtime Society.

Last year, he musically directed, arranged and performed in "Fables in Slang - A Ragtime Review", for its initial production off-Broadway. He has appeared many times on radio and TV in the U.S. and Britain.

His most recent recording, an all-ragtime CD "Spontaneous Ragtime" was released in March by Ravensong Records.

Peter, an acknowledged authority on ragtime, blues and early jazz, is currently studying for a Ph.D. in musicology at City University of New York. He also currently teaches at CUNY, following a ten year position at Westminster School in Britain, where he was Head of Keyboards and Director of Jazz Studies.

This was the second performance by Peter Muir for the NVRS. His previous appearance was in July 1997.
